Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

guardianship

have a 18yr. old son with downsydrome, I am divorced from his mother. She filed for guardianship. I have no problem with that but I would like to still have input into decisions regarding his life. What can I do?

Re: guardianship

Perhaps a co-guardianship. Generally, the courts don't like this type of arrangement because it means two signatures on the documents. Or, propose that she is guardian of your son's estate, meaning she can write the checks, and you both are co-guardians of the person, meaning you have input into decisions regarding his life.

Re: guardianship

you can attend the court hearings and ensure that you and the mother are joint legal guardians - that way you both have an equal say in decisions affecting your son. if you need an attorney to represent you, please contact me.

thanks.
