Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

What can happen

My mother I believe has full custody of me I am now 17yrs of age and lately I have temporarily moved in with my father and stepmother because of problems at home I believe I should not have to deal with. Can my mother make me go back to her home with out me wanting to? Can she not let me go to the house to get MY things or change locks so that I can not get anything of my own? My father lives in WI and my mother lives in MI. THank you for you'r time!!!!

Re: What can happen

Actually, your mother has legal authority to force you back. If you say you won't go and she says you have to, it has the potential of getting the police involved to drag you back. Furthermore, you are putting your father in a really bad position, even to the point of contempt of court or even worst, parental kidnapping (which is doubtful because of your age but who knows?) The most mature thing you could do is return and leave when you are 18. It is not fair to your father and stepmother to put them in this position. If things are that bad with your mother, you would have the right to go to the police. If it is just disagreements, stay where you are and move when you are of age. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
