Health Insurance Question for 18-year old daughter

Since my daughter is 18 now and considered an adult for insurance purposes, does she still have to abide by the divorce decree of her dad being primary and mom secondary? Or, can she determine which one she wants to be primary?

Re: Health Insurance Question for 18-year old daughter

The divorce judgment governs until your daughter graduates high school up to age 19.5, or until age 18 if she drops out (which I assume is not the case since most health insurances don't cover an 18 yr old as a dependant unless she's a full-time student).

That said, you need to get a court order to change health insurance providers until the judgment is no longer effective by its own terms. Your daughter's preference can be a basis for the request provided the change would be in her best interest, but a court order is still required to make the change.
