Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Issuing a Custody Order

After the trial, how long does the judge have to issue the order of custody? Is there a time limit?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Issuing a Custody Order

Are you asking how long it takes for the judge to render a decision? Or how long before a ruling from the bench is reduced to a writing? If the judge ruled, but no writing has come, you can present an order to the court reflecting the judge's ruling, so that the judge can sign the order. Make sure you comply with the court rule. If the judge has not ruled on the case, and the time is excessive (judgment call), then you can petition the court for a ruling. I would call the court first and ask if the judge is going to issue an opinion soon before you file the motion. For more info., please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
