Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Joint Custody across state Lines

I live in NY, my children (6 and 8) live in Detroit with their mom. We were never married.

They disappeared from NY Jan '97. I Didn't see my kids until 8/97 when she returned, which is when I filed visitation papers. She fled again before the courtdate. Warrant eventually issued, w/ ''violation of court order'', temporary custody order and UCCJA notice.

Since '98, I've been in contact with my kids and have seen them. She even returned here (8/00 - 8/01) and left again. While here, I didn't have her arrested. I'm now out of patience.

I'll be in Detroit shortly and would like to finally have paperwork enforced. How can I? I'll do as much as I can myself. Been laid-off for several months and cannot afford to retain an attorney.

Greetings; This type of action is clearly the work for an experienced attorney. Your best option is to contact the Friend of the Court and ask for their assistance. If they will not help, try some of the legal aid organizations. Good luck. Atty. Trichler; www.trichler.com

The Michigan courts must be used to enforce the NY court orders. Go to the court in NY and ask them to ask the Michigan courts for help. This is done all the time.
