Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
joint legal custody and dental
I am father with sole physical/joint legal custody of my daughter. She needs braces, I have an orthodontist that I trust thru her dentist office. The mother w/o my prior knowledge took her to another orthodontist who has an entirely different approach to the dental problem and much more costly. FOC has told Mom that I have final say as to treatment. Now I have received notice of Motion on a hearing from Mom's attny. What do I do. I can't find a court form to respond. Do I write a letter of response to Judge. Also, am I expected go along with her Ortho plan or do I as sole Physical parent have the right to make the decision as to who does the dental work. I am being accused of denying her treatment because my orthodontist wants to wait some before treatment, and hers wants it started asap. The child just turned 10. Problem is small jaw line and over crowding of teeth. My Ortho has been in business for nearly 50 years. I trust his judgement completely

Re: joint legal custody and dental
Joint legal custody means both parents have input into this decision. If the two of you can't agree then the judge makes the decision.
The mother has an attorney. You are not qualified to practice law or do battle with an attorney. I recommend that you hire an experienced and aggressive family law attorney to help you.
