Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

A lawyer represented me in a case three years ago. The same lawyer is now representing my ex in a custody battle. Can he do this?

If the case is completely unrelated, it is okay that the lawyer represents your ex. However, if in his prior representation, he would have gained confidential information that could theoretically be used against you, it is wrong that he represents your ex. If there is an appearance of impropriety, perhaps he should forego representing your ex.
