Legally Married or Not

If a person who lives in Oakland County in the state of Michigan got married in Jamaica, but never filed/submitted the appropriate paperwork in Michigan, is the marriage legally recognized in the state of Michigan?

The short answer to your question is yes. However, it does not mean that the marriage could not be challenged if your spouse was so inclined. In my opinion, your marriage would be recognized by a Michigan Court as long as you can prove the authenticity of your marriage paperwork in Jamaica. This means that any documents in a foreign language would need to be translated into English, and you will probably need certified copies of the Jamaican marriage certificates. Remember, this is only if one of the parties wants to claim that they are not married and the marriage is not valid. I hope this answers your question.
