Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Lenght of Alimony payments
I need to understand what the likely judgement would be for the length of alimony payments I would be required to make. It would help me to understand what those experienced in this matter think the outcome would be.
The results of the Alimony Prognisticator program was a Level 3 case (60 to 76 points). The language says this is a good case for ''some form of alimony''. My spouse has a MS degree and could easily find full time employment. Our children are ages 11 and 14.
I've been told there are three categories. One is ''short term'', the next is ''some form of alimony'', the last is ''long term''. I was also told short term is 0-5 years.
What range of time is considered for the ''some form of alimony'' category? I understand many factors are considered, but I need to learn more to decide if I risk more letting this be decided by the courts, or need to negotiate this.
Any advice is appreciated.

There is no simple answer. Every case is different. I would need to know your education, what your wife is saying about her lack of employment outside the home, your earnings versus her potential earnings, etc. William S. Stern
