Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

life insurance for child

in my divorce settlement (which isnt final yet) is in the process.....it states that my ex husband will maintain a life insurance policy and minor child will be the beneficiary....now my question is with it worded this way, am I protected? Can my husband as he is the owner of the policy change or omit this policy if he chooses at anytime? In the event my ex husband becomes deceased and my child is still a minor, would this money have to go through probate court? what action can I take through my attorney in protecting my child in the event this occurs? I asked my attorney if I should be the owner of the policy and she said no it doesnt matter. Is this true? Thank you kindly in advance for answering my questions?

You've hired an attorney to guide you through a divorce. If you trust your lawyer's advice, take it. If you don't trust your lawyer's advice, hire a new lawyer.
