Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

life insurence

My parents together had a

life-insurance policy with my name as

the soul recipient. when they

divorced my father gave it to my

mother with the condition that i stay

the main recipient until i turned 18.

my mother passed away when i was

15 years old. my stepfather became

the recipient not long before her

passing without mine or my fathers

knowledge. is this legal? is there

anything i can do and is it worth

suing?

Is there a court order requiring that you be beneficiary? Is there reason to think that your step-father somehow changed beneficiaries? I think you need to consult a probate attorney as soon as possible.

The courts have dealt with similar issues in the past. If there was a court order that you stay the main receipient until you turned 18, and if your mother or step father didn't obey the court order, you might be able to get help from the court. You should meet with an experienced family law attorney right away.
