Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

How long does a personal Protection Order Stay on your record?

Long story short I was served with a Personal protection order from my ex girlfriend and then I went to object to it. Regardless the judge ruled that it was going to stay on. I asked him if it would be taken off my record, and he said if I don't violate and with a ''lean'' it would go away in time. How long of the time I are we talking about.

They are generally in effect for 1 year from the date they were entered, and appear on the law enforcement's "lein" system, i.e., the computer database where they run your driver's license. It will also show up if you try to cross the canadian border, but it is not a reason to prevent you from entering the country (they just might ask you about it).

At the end of the 1 year period, she will have to petition to have it renewed, and you should receive notice of that, with an opportunity to object and/or appear at a hearing.
