man in jail-wife taking all posessions
Brother in jail and filing for divorce. Spouse sueing to take all his posessions before he can get any of his things ! Brother has very little $ - How can he protect the little he has ?

This is in response to your email of September 13, 2001, which this office received on October 26, 2001.
Your question was rather unspecific as to what possessions your brother is trying to protect. In Michigan, on a general basis, those assets acquired by the parties during the years of marriage should be divided on an equal basis, and typically the personal items of each individual should be retained by that person.
Your brother may have other remedies, such as the court motions to protect all marital assets during the divorce proceedings until a judgment of divorce is entered.
