Re: Meaning of 2 things stated in my divorce papers

Waiving verification means that you can sign your answer to the complaint for divorce without swearing to the truth of the contents before a notary. It also means that your lawyer can sign the answer for you without requiring your signature. It normally is done as a curtesy in an attempt to tell the other side 'let's get on with the issues and not get hung up on ridiculous formalities." When it says the parties are in possession of personal property and debts, it means exactly what it says. It is put into a complaint just before the request to have the court equitibly divide the assets and liabilities of the parties. If you are getting so into every nuance of the case, you should get a lawyer. William S. Stern
