Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Mediation recommendation changed?

I have a 14 month old baby - the father and I aren't married, but he is on the birth certificate. He filed papers for custody while we were still living together - I then moved out with my son and we went to court where his lawyer recommended mediation and mine agreed. The mediator came back with 50/50 and I don't agree. The father has grown children that don't talk to him and he isn't capable of caring for our son 50% of the time. Do mediator recommendations ever get turned over? I'm thinking of getting a new attorney and actually going to court to get in front of a judge. Any suggestions?? I'm in Wayne County, MI

Is there a court order establishing custody yet? You need to be aware that fighting this will very likely be expensive, but if you aren't happy with your current attorney there are plenty of attorneys in Wayne County that would be able to help you.
