Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Medical Ins for my daugther through new Husband
I am the mother of a 6-year old daughter who has had an active relationship with her biological father, essentially, throughout her whole life. I do not have any desire to do anything to sever that bond. Her father and I were never married and split up when she was two years old. Since that time he has not paid child support & I did not pursue the issue because my situation did not make it a real need. I am now in a new situation. I will be getting married next year and, understandably, my fiance would like to pursue collection of child support since he is now partially responsible for paying for her needs. In addition, we would like to know what our options are for being able to put her on my fiance's health insurance once we're married. Her father has already indicated that allowing her to be adopted by my fiance is not an option.

Your attorney can file a motion to get Mr. Deadbeat Dad contributing to his daughter's support.
After you marry, your new husband can add your daughter to his medical insurance.

An attorney can file a motion for support for you. Your daughter's father is responsible to help support her.
Once you are married you can add your daughter to your new husband's health insurance.
