Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

a mess

my mom and dad went out to dinner that night and i put in shorts. my dad wouldnt let me go with shorts on. i say then ill stay home. well i stayed and when they got back i asked my mom what i could have for dinner. she said find something in the fridge or freezer. i looked and there was nothing there and i told her that but she said look harder. i finally gave up and took fish crackers, pudding, and an opened energy drink. she saw it and took it away from me. i said if your gonna take it away from me then what can i have for dinner. she said nothing and go to bed. i followed her downstairs and she started dumping the energy drink. took itfrom her with such force that it went in the air and went all over the kitchen.i think she had no right to just dump my drink. she didnt offer me anything for dinner and i looked and didnt find anything.just today she tried throwing away every thing on my desk. there was expensive stuff on there such as a laptop and a i-dog. i am 13 yrs old and i would like to know your opinion. i got grounded for 2 weeks.! please email me back at [email protected]

Re: a mess

13 is a difficult age and rebellion is common. Unfortunately, it is frustrating for kids and parents who are entering into a different type of relationship they are not familiar with. Parents desperately want their sweet, cooperative child back. I don't see any legal issues here you can win on, but you can be smart and pick your battles carefully. It doesn't sound like wearing shorts or not is very important and your cooperation would have resulted in a pleasant evening for everyone.

When you are 13, parents are in charge, and they can ground you and take away possessions.

Good luck.
