Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Minor Guardianship

My husband and I along with out 2 chilren reside in Oklahoma. One of our daughters (14) will be moving back to Michigan to live with her Grandmother, and attend school for the next 4 years. What needs to be done to ensure the Grandmother is able to enrole her in school, seek medical/dental attention for our daughter should the need arrise, allow her to sign school consent forms and so on. We do not want her to be adopted by Grandma,or lose our rights as her legal parents. This is just so she can live there with her Grandmother and attend school. She will be coming back to Oklahoma during summer vacations. Is a letter written and signed by us as parents, then notarized enough?

Re: Minor Guardianship

Greetings; This situation can be handled in one of two ways. First, you can have grandma become a guardian of the child. This is a legal process. Or you can sign a temporary guardianship form for Grandma. This form is only good for 6 months. So, it would need to be re-done fairly often. I see no need to even consider adoption or the giving up of parental rights. Thanks, Atty. Trichler; www.trichler.com
