Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Modification of Support Order

I have recently been ordered to pay child support in the amount of 267.00 per week which was calculated from earnings dated from 1999. I would like to retain an attorney from Michigan that can help me lower the amount more suitable to my current income and responsabilitys. Any information you can supply me would be very helpfull. Thank You

Re: Modification of Support Order

I have received your post regarding modificaton of your support payments. Michigan allows for a change in the support amount when there is a "change in circumstances" for one of the parties. Domestic representation is one of this firm's areas of concentration. Feel free to contact my associate, Helene Phillips, or myself if you would like to discuss retaining our firm. Good Luck. John C. Re: Modification of Support Order

If you can show that your current situtation has changed materially and that the information used to set support is no longer accurate, you would be in a good position to lower support. However, you have to be realistic and recognize that the amount support would be lowered may not meet your expectations. There are guidelines and the courts seldom deviate from the guidelines. Contact my office if you wish to plug your current situation into the guidelines to see how you'd fare.
