When can I move out
I'm 16 years old and living with my mother and step-father, I despretaly want to move out of my house but i dont want to live with my realy father. I would like to know how old I have to be to live with someone else, and what steps i need to take if I'm able to move out now.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time of it, but the age of emancipation in Michigan is 18 years old.

The age of majority (i.e. the age that you are legally emancipated from your parents, including the freedom to live on your own) in Michigan is 18 years (there are other circumstances allowing for emancipation, such as valid marriage and military service). However, because you are already 16 (though not yet 18) you may petition the court for emancipation from your parents. You must prove to the court that emancipation would be in your best interest and must show an ability to support yourself, including employment/other support and housing arrangements. If your parents object, you must make a showing that they are not providing you with support. You must also provide an affidavit from one or more individuals, other than your parents, stating that emancipation would be in your best interest. There are numerous details that must be covered in such a petition, and you would have the burden of proof.
