Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
moving out
I am a mother of 3 who needs to leave a 20 year marriage. No physical abuse, but much emotional distress. I have a full time job, bringing home $1600/month. Rent or house payments range around $800-1,000 per month so it would be near impossible to use at least half or more of my income on housing. I need three bedrooms as I have two daughters, and a son who will soon be 18. My husband runs a dairy farm and his checks vary according to milk prices, but probably anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000 per month. We have a ten-year old home but with my husband working there, he isn't about to leave the house. Do you have any advice for me on what my options are?
Can I afford to leave and what do you think I can count on for child support during this whole process. What is the first step I should be taking?

Re: moving out
Don't move out yet. See a good divorce lawyer in your area. In fact, consult with several of the best in your area. This way, your husband will not be able to hire them. His income is probably less than you think because you may be quoting gross income and not net income. You should get substantial support and the farm may be worth plenty. William S. Stern

Consulting with an experienced and aggressive family law attorney BEFORE doing anyting more is a great idea. What county are you in?
