Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
movint a child to a different state
My boyfriend and I have an 18 month old son. We do not live together. I have custody of our son. I am the primary caregiver 99% of the time. My boyfriend comes and goes as he pleases. He pays for child care and for some other expenses. I am thinking of breaking up with him and moving to another state. My question is, would I be able to move my son to another state without having his fathers permission or am I not able to move him without his fathers permission? Thank you.

Re: movint a child to a different state
Is the father on the birth certificate? If not, has paternity been established by court order? If neither has happened, you could probably move out of state without seeking his or a court's permission. If you desire court ordered child support, you probably will have to have paternity established by court order. If you do, he may be able to block your moving to another state.
