newborn childs last name
I was wondering what the law was in Michigan pertaining to the last name of a newborn. I am an expectant mother, who is not wed to the father. I was wondering if the baby automatically gets my last name, the fathers or is it my choice.

It is usually the mother's choice as to the name put on the birth certificate. You need not list the father's name on the birth certificate. For more info, please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
