Obtaining a Child Support Order
Is there any way to obtain an order of child support without using a government agency? (Child Support Enforcement) I have been waiting almost 3 years for them to serve my child's father who lives in another State. I have been told that it is a long process but I am certain it shouldn't take 3 years. Most recently, he has been incarcerated and will be released in December. I have given this information to Child Support Enforcement and still nothing has been done? Is there anything that I can do on my own? I think it's ridiculous that this is taking so long! I have given every bit of information concerning his whereabouts, address, social security, etc. and still NOTHING!! My son is 14 and has never received any child support from his father.

Ordinarily, if the father is in Georgia, you can have him served by the marshal or by a specially appointed process server. So, if you know where he is, it shouldn't be a big deal to get him served and then the ball should be rolling. I'm not sure why it has taken so long, but the fact that he has been in jail might have something to do with it.
