Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
My parents and their rights, emancipation and my rights
you see my parents are extremely conservative and I am a avarage student in shcool and I play in a musical group but my parents think I should be studying most of the time and they say i am not allowed to ever hang out with a friend or they will take an action i will surely regret. This confuses me and I feel so depressed that i havent done anything wrong and that I dont deserve this. I want to be able to have friends in high school. My parents say they will take actions I will surely regret but what actions could they take? Could they make restraining orders agaisnt all my friends? What actions, I am puzzled!

Re: My parents and their rights, emancipation and my rights
Just tell them that in the long run, you hold the power because when you are independent of them, you will chose whether or not to have a relationship with them. Also, the scars that you carry around from your youth will harm your relationship with them permanently. So while they control the situation now, in the very near future, you will control how the relationship with your parents goes. If they treat you with the respect you deserve, then everyone will be rewarded with a healthy relationship. If they do not give you your props, then they will be deprived of you and you will be deprived of having parents around as you get older. So I guess, they hold the power to control the future. If they chose to misuse their power, they will grow old very lonely. Bill Stern
