Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Paternity, DNA Testing and the Birth Certificate
My girlfriend is preganant and there is a small chance that it is not my child. She will not have a pre-birth DNA test done. I am trying to be supportive with the idea that it is my child, however the day she delivers when I am at the hospital can I request the paternity test and shouldnt I wait to sign the birth certificate until after the DNA Paternity testing is complete??? Please advise, what if I sign the birth certificate and we find out I am not the father??

Re: Paternity, DNA Testing and the Birth Certificate
You hit upon the answer yourself. Don't have yourself put on the birth certificate until DNA is done. William S. Stern
