Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
paternity
My 20 year old nephew recently got married because he was told by his girlfriend that she was pregnant. We are now finding out that the baby is most likely not his. She doesn't allow him to go to the doctor with her, so he doesn't get to see the due date. She said she was due in April, but we have now heard that it is due in March, which would not be possible in relation to when they met. He was told her couldn't get a divorce until after the baby is born. Can he force her to do a paternity test, and is he responsible regardless since they are married?

Re: paternity
A divorce would likely not be granted until the child was born, and if there is a question about paternity, the parties could agree to, or request that the judge order, a paternity test. It would be a good idea to tell your nephew to contact an attorney, especially as the due date is approaching. If your nephew would like to contact me for a consultation, he can read more about our firm at www.altonlawfirmplc.com, where our contact information is listed. Good luck.

Your nephew's problem is much to complex to resolve on the internet. He needs to meet with an experienced family law attorney right away.
