Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Who pays the bills in a divorce?

My husband and I were married in August of last year. About a month before that he moved into my apartment with me and I quit my job to stay home with my children, then had another child in October. Throughout the whole marriage he was the only one working. We are now seperated (no legal action has been taken) but he is no longer living with me. We had gotten behind on all of our bills and now I am stuck with all of the bills (they are in my name) and add up to almost $4,000. I cannot afford to pay these by myself since I am not working...Who is responsible for these bills-Is he required to pay them???

If the bills were incurred while taking care of household business, they are joint. If you went to the casino, then they will be your bills. Since he is the sole breadwinner, take some of his money and pay down a charge instead of paying some other bill. Then go hire a lawyer. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
