Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Personal Protection and Harrasment

I am living with a lady who's ex husband is on a crusade to discredit and harrass me with with at least two attempts to bring false charges against me. The first he filed false charges stating I and his ex were making hang up calls to his home. Found to be untrue. The second and more serious was just recently where he filed a complaint stating I molested my girlfriends 13 year old grandson. It also was thrown out. The man has no contact with his grandson, which made the suit all the more ridiculous.

It all boils down to, he is attempting to harrass us with nonsense and will not leave us alone.

My question what should I do about this, file a personal protection order against him? Since I am not a member of the family, would this even apply? I want to get across to this person that I will not sit back and allow him to drag my name thru the mud with no consequence. It is harrasment pure and simple. Thank you

Re: Personal Protection and Harrasment

You haven't mentioned what the Ex-wife is doing about the problem (even though she seems to be the only link between you two men) and whether children are involved. A personal protection order might help, but what you really need to consider is what the problem is and how to solve it, rather than lashing out back with him and continuing the relationship through swapping punches. Figure out where his leverage is and get rid of it. Next time he files an action against you, ask the judge for damages and advise him that you will file a civil lawsuit against him the very next time he files baseless charges.
