Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
PKU and Family Services
I have a cousin that has two children with PKU in the state of Michigan. The state told them when they got pregnant with the second child that they would have to have an amnio and if the child had it they would have to have an abortion or not receive any help with medical expenses. They refused and the youngest has it as well. Now the oldest one is refusing to eat despite the desperate attempts by his parents to get him to eat and the state gave them one week to get him to gain the two pounds he lost or they were going to take both children away because they are threatening his life by not getting him to eat. No one has come to observe her trying to feed him and her case worker keeps telling her she will loose them. She does not want to force feed him and can not get anyone to help her. The deadline is Tuesday and she is frantic. My question is can the state take children like that without coming to the home to see that she is doing all that she can? I also want to know what you suggest our steps that she should be taking? Thank you for a prompt answer to this soon.

Re: PKU and Family Services
I suggest that your cousin hire a VERY AGGRESSIVE and TOUGH attorney to represent her. She needs an attorney with a long track record of success with CPS cases in Michigan.
I recommend she contact Attorney Mike Cronkright on Thursday. His phone number is 1 517.886.1000
