Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Possesion question

I keep hearing possesion is 9/10th of the law . Is this true?I left with almost nothing.My husband and I have been living apart for over 2 years. We own 2 businesses.He pays my bills. But I have no other money all my college debt is on credit cards and gasoline for my car grocheys.I have been living conservativly. He has paid off 30,000 in credit card debt. Of course mine keeps going higher.I don't have the money to retain an attorney and he controlls the income from both bussinesses. ( i do not recieve a paycheck and have not for 10 years, in fact he has claimed my social security as his and according to the IRS I have not even worked.)Do I need a family law attorney or a bussiness law attorney to handle this?One more question since he has bought 5-10,000 in tools and guns , gone on vacations,ect.Would it look bad on me if I charged or borrowed against my life insurance for dental work and computers ????? I am getting ready to file and so the dates would be close?????????????

It is somewhat true that you are in a worse situation as your husband controls everything. Do you have any real estate with him? How long were you married? What were the circumstances that caused you to leave? Are there any children involved? What are your respective ages. What is your educational background versus his? These are all questions that should be answered in order to give you an opinion concerning where you stand. Your divorce is potentially a bit complex as it involves the valuation of businesses, etc. It is possible that you husband is not reporting or running all his income through the businesses.
