powers of attorney
My mother has legal guardianship for my nephew, but wants to give me powers of attorney on him. Can we just write a letter stating this and have it notarized or does it have to be done by an attorney?

Nothing ever HAS to be done by an attorney. If you feel qualified to practice law, by all means go for it. My guess is that you're equally qualified to practice surgery. My suggestion is that you rely on trained surgeons and trained lawyers rather than botching things up yourself.
