Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
What is the reason behind the 60 day waiting period before a divorce in MI? Is is in case the parties change their minds? It just seems an odd amount of time.
This is mainly curiousity. But I am beginning the process now and really cannot see that happening in 60 days.
Thank you.

Most states have waiting periods of some form or another. Largely, it exists so folks don't a major life altering decision, like getting divorced, without some period of contemplation. When there are minor children, the waiting period is even longer (one hundred and eighty days).
