Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Removal of Property from Marital Home
I'm going to file for divorce. My husband has temporarily moved out. I've found a new place to live, and want to move in right away so he can come back to the house. The house is in his name only, but it's been the family residence for 5 years, 2 of which we've been married. He has threatened to call the police if I move without letting him inspect all of the items I take first. I'm only taking items that were mine before marriage, gifts or hand-me-downs from my family, or that I purchased for myself. Can he really stop me from taking these items or have me arrested for doing so?

No, you won't get arrested. However, making any moves like you're describing is very silly until you've hired a family law attorney. You are likely to make critical errors that may be costly to you.
