Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Retirement funds

I was divorced in 2003, he worked for a municipality and just before our divorce he was fired. My ex-husband died about 3 weeks ago and he left me 1/2 of his insurance and all of his retirement funds. Our divorce has a paragraph indicating we are not to be each others beneficiary. The only change he made was to his life insurance, changing it to give me 1/2 instead of 100% but he left everything else just as it was. Can his parents now sue me because of the statement in the divorce papers.

Re: Retirement funds

Of course they can sue you. The real question is whether their lawsuit will be successful. That will depend in large part, on the timing. Take everything to your family law attorney right away for analysis.
