Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Rights of a Divorce
I am writing this in regards to a family member. He was in jail when his wife began divorce proceedings. He was asked to make a list of the items that he wanted but did not specify excatly what they were on the paper work. Evidently he was under the impression that his so to be ex-wife was going to ''play fair.'' However, she didn't and many things that he felt he should have gotten were kept by her. While he was in jail, she did sell the house. She got her portion of the money and said that she wrote him and told him that it had been sold and that his money was put into a account. I spoke with him not to long ago and he was never told that the house had been sold by her. What rights does he have once he gets out of jail? Will she have to account for any money she got by selling the house and two of his vehiclles? He is very upset by this and really would like some advice as to how he should proceed.

Re: Rights of a Divorce
He should proceed right away by contacting a family law attorney. He need not wait until he's out of jail.
