Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Separation
My mother was separated a few of weeks ago, after she had found out that her husband was cheating on her for six months. She told him to move out and he did, he went to Florida (that is where his girlfriend is). He hasn't given us a penny so far and my mom is really frustrated. So we charged the dental bill ($2000) to his credit card, which was partly his bill. After he found out about this issue, he called my sister and said that we better stop because he has notified the FBI and he doesn't want to see us in cuffs. --name removed--would like to please know if that is just a threat, or is it really possible for him to take some sort of action against us. They are still legally married (they have been for about 26 years). Also, my mom wants to get child support --name removed--ll be 18 in February 2002) and alimony from him but he has unreported income. How would they go about figuring out how much to pay?
Thank you very much for your time.

To Whom It May Concern:
This is in response to your email, which you submitted on August 3, 2001.
I doubt very much that the FBI or any law enforcement agency would be interested in investigating a wife with regard to making a charge on a husbands credit card.
In order to collect alimony and/or child support, a complaint would need to be filed with the appropriate court. The amount of support would depend on the income of the parties. Unreported income is often a significant problem and difficult to prove.
