Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
settling old child support cases
I have 3 old child support cases (80's) all the children are over 18. I found out last year through the mi amnesty program that 2 cases were still active. One was to be closed in 1994 mother died I got custody one 1996 she was not sueing for support and wanted no contact. I knew i owed on the other one. In 1997 I wrote to the FOC and ask for any bal on the 2 cases. I never rec anything back. They have had my address for 19 years. In the 90's you had to go in person for almost everything. MI was to check on what I had told them and send me forms for the program and the bal. I never got anything . all that happened is the MISDU starting sending coupons for all 3 cases with over 100,000 total between them! Phone calls got me no where - new system now call the FOC etc. I then received a few months ago a pre off set letter for 107000!. I have checked the court files and it is only the old FOC that is in the record no new claimsI do not have my ex wife info I gave it to the FOCin 1995and filed sent everything they told me too no contact for over 19 years was what shewanted. How can I settle these cases. I have lost a job because I can't travel and they don't want to deal with this. I am in fl and need help
