Sibling adoption or Child emancipaiton

My sixteen year old sister has been living with me for over a month now.Should I try to get custody or should we try to have her emancipated. Our mother wont give permission for either. She also gets survivor benefits from our father how do we go about getting those benefits without having custody?

Re: Sibling adoption or Child emancipaiton

File a petition for guardianship with the county probate court. You will have a fair chance of getting it. Once you are the legal guardian, Social Security will mail you the checks. Emancipation will be very difficult and this will accomplish your purposes. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
