Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

signing off parental rights

I am a divorced father of two girls. I have not been allowed visitation for over a year and can no longer afford to fight with my ex and the family courts. Can I sign off my rights ? Do the children need to be adopted by someone else if the mother has custody ?

Re: signing off parental rights

Dear Sir:

This is in response to your email of April 15, 2001, which was received by this office on June 8, 2001.

In Michigan, you cannot necessarily sign off your rights to your children, but can consent to adoption. However, you should continue to contact your local county Friend of the Court through written correspondence and telephone conversations requesting that the current order of visitation be enforced. If you need assistance in that regard, we can help.

Thank you for contacting our office. Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, kindly contact us at (313) 561-5700.

Sincerely,

Blair Moody attorney for Nichols & Eberth, P.C.
