Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Slander in Lansing State Journal?
I currently live in Texas, I have a divorce decree in Michigan and it was entered in Texas. I mind you that its a long story. I just learned that my name was and is currently being run every second Sunday in the LANSING STATE JOURNAL as a dead beat parent because I owe arranges in child support. I find this to be very disturbing to say the least. Even bigger issue is that the State of Michigan has put the burden on me to serve as a middle man between the two states; you see I do pay child support; I pay Texas as I should then Texas pays the mother. Its not being recorded by MI FOC Ingham County. I have tried on many instances to get this worked out. I have been yelled at by the director of FOC Ingham co telling me its my problem and Texas is the hardest state to work with, even though he had a printout from TX showing what I have paid. Now my name is being run through the mud unnecessarily. Is this SLANDER?

Even if it is slander, they will most likely be protected by the concept of governmental tort immunity, meaning that the government gets away with almost everything. This is old law that dates back to the time of the Magna Carta. Bill Stern

Possibly libel, not slander(it is defamation), but if it is FOC that is committing the defamation, there may be issues of governmental immunity if you are thinking of litigation. For more info., please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
