Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Spousal support retroactive

In a recent judgment concerning my divorce settlement the judge awarded me $34,526 as an alimony arrearage. My attorney states this is payable at the time the judge signs it which was yesterday March 22nd. When should I expect payment on this and what happens if he doesn't pay it. The judge's exact wording on the judgment is as follows, ''Rather than make Mrs. X wait on Mr. X to pay the settlement amount herein set forth, the court elects to award to Mrs. X the marital home free and clear of any claim, right, title or interest by Mr. X and preserve the remaining balance of $34,526 as an alimony arrearage.'' I live in Michigan. Thanks to all who reply as I am flat broke and this divorce has taken over 4 years to settle.

Re: Spousal support retroactive

It is basically a judgment and can be collected like any other judgment, such as through garnishment, etc. You have to find his assets or sources of income and attach. This is not easy. William S. Stern 248-353-9400
