Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Spousal support with special circumstances - Michigan
When my husband retired from the military 11 years ago, he knew that he would not be able to make it on his monthly retirement (we were separated)so he begged me to move to michigan on the promise of the end of our marital problems. He talked me into withdrawing all my retirement savings incurring a heavy penalty, which left us with $15,000.00 plus my $800.00 unemployment to live off until we started working. Now i'm facing divorce, and every cent I've earned til now has gone into a joint account, that he handles with the exception of my $30.00 weekly allowance. I have no family here and i am in financial jeopardy. can I receive spousal support under the circumstances i described?

You might, and I stress might get spousal support under very narrow circumstances. It is unclear whether these circumstances merit spousal support. for more info, please contact my office at (248)851-3171.

You can get spousal support if you have no income and he does. However, the amount that you get probably won't be that much. William S. Stern
