Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
My spouse agreed to accept service of divorce papers. I served her. She signed the Acknowledgement of Service portion of the Proof of Service doc. The court clerk then told me that in 21 days I must file 2 more docs, but cannot tell me what they are. What are they and why can the court not tell me? I used michiganlegalhelp.gov and filled out all provided paperwork. It's possible I already have the forms completed.

Check online or with legal aid- sometimes they have pckets for pro se plaintiffs. You will need to file for a default judgment of divorce, get a hearing date, and provide your wife with copies and a notice of hearing. You will have to file a proof of service with the court showing you served everything on your wife. You may consider hiring a lawyer to help you because it is crucial that it is done correctly. A lawyer would probably only charge you a nominal fee.
The final divorce documents can effect you for the rest of your life. If you're OK with the idea of trusting your future to a web site or to a nominal attorney, go for it. I've never been a big fan of looking for a surgeon that would work for the cheapest price nor do I look for attorneys that work for a nominal fee. When a need a surgeon or an attorney, I'm looking for the best there is. Not everyone agrees with me. Some people have to settle for the bottom of the barrel. Just not me. Do whatever you're comfortable with. If you feel comfortable practicing law, go for it.
