Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Spouse Attempted Suicide & Alcohol Problem

My soon to be ex-wife has attempted suicide twice in the last 9 months, she's been deemed clinically depressed. She is an alcoholic, though supposedly has gone 2 months without a drink and is in AA. I want to obtain full custody of our 3 year old son, due to her reckless and unpredictable behavior. I currently have custody 4 days of the week and she has 3 days a week.

Do you have any suggestions for a seriously concerned father as I go into court to fight for full custody of our son? I'm being told it will be a lot more difficult to get full custody since I am the father?

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are facing. Each court and judge is different, and courts are not opposed to giving full custody to fathers--they just have to make the custody determination that is in the best interests of the child--whether it is with the mother or the father. While you would be benefited by having an attorney help you with this issue, if you do want to represent yourself, then you need to be honest with the Court and try to prove all of the issues that you raise. Good luck to you. www.altonlawfirmplc.com
