Which state law governs?

Hi, I am a legal resident of MI and my partner is a legal resident of CA. We are getting married in MI. Which state law governs this marriage contract?

By contract, do you mean prenup? you can specify which state's law you want to apply in the contract itself. Otherwise, the law in the state where the contract was drafted, negotiated and entered into would likely apply.

If by "contract" you are talking about marriage itself, the law that applies is the law where you get married. If you should divorce, the law where you have resided for at least 180 days would apply.
