Time limit for divorce to finalize

How long can it take to finalize a divorce if there is a dispute over financial assets? Is there a time frame in which the dispute has to be settled or can it continue on for years?

The judges want to move their dockets. The courts are also under a Supreme Court order to move any cases more than two years old. Generally speaking, the judges demand that you go to trial within about one year at the most. If the case is not ready to go, they'll dismiss it and make you start over. William S. Stern
