Understanding jurisdiction

I have lived in michigan (genesee county) for 3+ years. I was divorced in Indiana. I have joint custody, he has primary physical. He moved from IN. to OH. then to MI. all within a year. He stayed in Michigan for 8 months. during said time, I asked indiana to transfer jurisdiction to Mi. a week after the request he moved back to indiana, but not the same county that holds juris. court was held, judge said yes, have genesee co. send him a request and he will transfer. genesee co. said they dont do that. what should i do to get it transferred? i am stable, he is not. i have a lot of problems with him, i have to take off work to drive all the way to indiana when there is an issue. HELP PLEASE

Hello, I have received a copy of your e-mail regarding the jurisdiction of a Court. The answer is somewhat complicated, also theory and practice are two different things. There are 3 courts that have potential jurisdiction: the court where the Judgment of divorce and of custody was entered, the court where your son and his father are located, and the court where you are located. It would probably be a toss-up between the first 2 courts now. The Michigan court probably is the last choice since your ex and your son are no longer in Michigan.
