Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
verbal abuse
I took custody of my sisters child when she was 8 days old. she is now 9 1/2. Full adoption on my own when she was 4. I was going thru the adoption process when I met my husband to be. He knew her heritage and all about her and I. He says he loves her and I. I have no idea what has gotten into him, he is now calling names and referring to the child as a ''nigger''. He in his mind thinks this is o.k. to do. Also he states it is his way or the highway. Are these grounds for the ''highway''? I cannot allow my child to be called these names by an adult, especially one who claims to love us......

And you're still with this guy? I really doubt that this just started. anyway, dump the SOB and make sure that he has no visitation or involvement with your child. William S. Stern

I am not sure what your question is or what "grounds for the highway" means. If you are asking if that is grounds for divorce, Michigan is a no-fault divorce state and you do not need grounds other than the marriage has deteriorated to the point the marriage cannot be saved. You do not say if you are married. If not, this is not a legal question, but a question for a family counselor. If you are considering divorce, you should consult with a divorce attorney.
Good luck.
