Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

visitation and paying support

If the father has lost his job, and the mother refuses to let the father see the child, and there are communication problems between the mother and father. Is it possible for the father to sign over all rights to the mother and not have to pay for child support?

Re: visitation and paying support

No. However, I would strongly suggest filing a motion with the court to reduce your child support obligation.

Re: visitation and paying support

Potentially the father may be able to relinquish his parental rights and not pay support. However, if social services are involved, they may not let this occur. Keep in mind that the visitation issues have nothing to do with the support issue. However, if the father is seriously considering doing this, it is probably a useless conversation because he should not be considered the child's father anyway. William S. Stern
